Who We Are

The Biomedical Engineering Society

Founded on February 1, 1968, the Biomedical Engineering Society was established to serve as the lead society and professional home for biomedical engineering and bioengineering students, academics, and professionals. The mission of the Society is to promote and enhance biomedical engineering knowledge worldwide and its utilization for human health and well-being.

BMES members are leaders in biomedical research and development. Members are leading researchers from major universities, government agencies and BME corporations worldwide as well as doctors and industry leaders in pharmaceuticals and prosthetic devices among others. BMES membership has grown to over 5,000 members, with over 115 BMES student chapters and a growing international membership.

The University of Houston Chapter

The Biomedical Engineering Society University of Houston chapter, est. 2010, strives to build a strong connection with the biomedical engineering students on campus by holding educational/professional workshops, running monthly general meetings, and allowing engineering students to socialize in various social events.

We work hard on building effective platforms within the organization’s body to assist the students over their academic journey and also with finding their desired prospective career.
